How to Encourage Customer Feedback to Improve Your Business

When you're running your business, how do you know what your customers really think about your operation? Getting customer feedback about your employees, location and company as a whole can be difficult to obtain if you're not quite sure how to go about the process. Here's a look at different ways you can encourage customer feedback or otherwise receive feedback for your company to improve your operation.

  • Consider a rewards program. If you want a customer to provide you with feedback, reward them for their participation. For example, offer a 20% coupon off of their next purchase or a chance at a gift card if they fill out an online survey. If you do choose to go with a drawing, ask if you can share a picture of them receiving their prize on your social media profiles to encourage participation.

  • Get commentary on social media. Most people interact with a brand on a minimum of a monthly basis, so asking questions as part of your social media strategy helps the person answering the questions feel like they're contributing to your business. Post images of the changes you make based on their suggestions to provide them with a sense of ownership.

  • Consider a mystery shopper. A mystery shopper acts as an anonymous reviewer, leaving feedback on a range of areas that you can choose to ask them about, such as the kind of customer service they received, whether they were asked about an upsell or rewards program when they checked out or if your location was clean and in good repair.

  • Respond to online reviews. If your company shows up on Yelp, Google or Facebook, you're going to probably end up with business reviews at some point or another. Respond to those reviews to show that you care about what your customers have to say about your business. Thank good reviewers and apologize to bad reviewers, even if they're being unreasonable.

By getting customer feedback, you can make informed decisions about how to make changes to your business to ensure good growth in the future.
